Step 1 - Cutting the track
Attaching the track to a wooden batten, instead of
directly to the wall, will make it sturdier. When you
cut the track be sure to leave enough distance to
completely draw the curtains back  from the window. You
will need the curtains ready to do this. 

Step 2 - Marking the batten height
Measure 75mm up from the window. Use a spirit level to
mark a line horizontally from this point. This is the
line on which you will place the top edge of the batten. 
 
Step 3 - Preparing the batten
Prepare a batten  50mm by 25mm of smooth sawn wood by
cutting it to the correct length to correspond with your
track. Drill two to four holes spaced along the batten at
regular intervals for the batten mounting screws.

Step 4 - Marking the batten
Bisect the batten with a line lengthways. Mark the
position of the brackets on the line with a bradawl. Put
one 50mm from each end, then space the others
approximately 250mm apart.

Step 5 - Attaching the brackets
You can now screw the curtain brackets into the batten.
Because they are attached to the wood they will easily
take the weight of the curtains. 

Step 6 - Attaching the batten
Mark and drill the appropriate holes in the wall and
attach the batten.

Step 7 - Attaching the track
Attach the track to the brackets as directed by the
manufacturer’s instructions.
